Benefits of adding coconut oil to your coffee plus recipes

Why Put Coconut Oil in Coffee?

MCTs (Medium Chain Triglycerides)

Coconut oil is the only oil that contains a significant amount of MCTs (Medium Chain Triglycerides).

CTs are rapidly absorbed by the body and quickly metabolised as fuel instead of being stored as fat.

Faster Metabolism

These MCTs help speed up the metabolism rate of your body. When the MCTs are metabolised as fuel, your body uses it immediately.

People on the ketogenic diet use a different kind of oil known as MCT oil for cooking and in coffee.

You can read more about that and the differences between coconut oil and MCT oil at MCT Oil and the Keto Diet.

Optimises Immune System

There is an important fatty acid in coconut oil known as lauric acid. This is the same kind of acid found in human breast milk. Lauric acid is a potent antimicrobial, which helps bolster the immune system.

Improved Energy Levels

Well, coffee contains caffeine, which gives a boost of energy levels in the morning when you’re feeling tired. Combining this with coconut oil delivers even higher energy levels.

Controls Cravings

1 tablespoon of coconut oil is about 121 calories. Eating coconut oil first thing in the morning can help control cravings throughout the day.

Coffee With Coconut Oil Drawbacks

However, coconut oil with your coffee isn’t all good news. There are some important things to keep in mind.

This shouldn’t be a replacement for breakfast. You should still start the day with a good breakfast. Additionally, overdoing it can lead to weight gain.

1 tablespoon of coconut oil is about 121 calories. Consuming several cups of coffee and coconut oil every day may not have the desired effect.

Coffee with Coconut Oil Recipe

There isn’t much to this recipe. Just add 1 – 2 tablespoons of organic coconut oil to your cup of coffee, stir and you’re good to go.

If you’re feeling fancy, you can run the coffee and coconut oil in a blender for a few seconds to create a frothy treat. A personal blender like PopBabies Personal Blender is ideal for this.

Optional additions to the recipe include honey, milk, vanilla extract and stevia. You can also add ice if you prefer the coffee cold.

If you’ve never tried this before, start with 1/2 tablespoon and work your way up from there till your body gets used to it.

Remember, the key here is moderation if you want to reap the maximum benefits. Don’t overdo it.
