4 Bentonite Clay Mask Recipes for Healthy & Glowing Skin

Indian healing clay is one of my best products for hair care. It helps with detoxifying the scalp, curl definition, and cleansing without stripping.

However, bentonite clay masks can also be a fantastic add on to a skincare regimen targeted towards healthy and glowing skin.

What is Bentonite Clay?

Bentonite clay is a fine powder derived from volcanic ash aged over time.

It was initially discovered in Montmorillon, France but significant amounts can also be found in Fort Benton, Wyoming, USA.

If your skin is purging because of something you ate or something else, bentonite clay masks can help regulate your skin.

The masks will draw out all the dirt, grime, impurities, and deep cleanse your pores.

2. Draws Out Toxins

Bentonite clay has a negative electrical charge, which bonds to toxins with a positive charge in the skin and draws them out.

8.  Encourages Younger Looking Skin

Regular bentonite clay mask treatments tighten up mature skin and leaves skin looking younger and firmer. A mini facelift without any surgery.

Tips for Using Bentonite Clay Masks

  • Use these recipes no more than two times a week as overdoing it might have the opposite effect on your skin.
  • Mix in a small non-metallic bowl. Metal utensils render bentonite clay useless.
  • Your acne might get worse before it gets better so don’t be alarmed if this happens. Continue with the treatment. Your skin should settle within a few weeks.
  • You can store leftover masks in a small glass jar like this one but use within a month. Fresh clay masks are always best.

Bentonite Clay Side Effects

Most people tolerate bentonite clay masks well. However, if your skin is too sensitive or the clay mask makes your face itch then make the consistency a bit thinner and leave on for only 5 – 10 minutes.

Instead of rinsing with lukewarm water, you can hold your face over a bowl of hot water for a few minutes to steam off the mask then wipe off with a damp towel.

Another method is to use the clay mask only once a week instead of a few times a week.

Additional tip – replace bentonite clay with white kaolin clay if you have especially sensitive skin. White kaolin clay is the mildest of all the clays.

Where to Buy Bentonite Clay?

Not all bentonite clay for sale is authentic. Some of them have been adulterated with unsafe ingredients or extracted improperly.

Below are my top 3 recommendations + 1 recommendation for white clay for sensitive skin. I have tried all these brands and they’re reliable:-
