I remember staring at the doctor thinking, “Are these people ok? Aren’t you going to give me an injection or suck it out like they do in movies?”
The doctor and nurse laughed and said I would be ok. They left it on overnight and I was right as rain by morning.
I remember being quite chuffed that a tiny piece of coal worked so well.
Aside from medical applications, activated charcoal can help treat teeth discoloration and whiten teeth.
Activated charcoal is also used in many beauty applications such as facial masks and armpit whitening.
Some people also take activated charcoal internally.
However, there aren’t enough studies available regarding the long-term effect of activated charcoal on health.
I would recommend restricting internal consumption until more is known.

Activated Charcoal Side Effects
Used externally, activated charcoal is fine for most adults. However, internal consumption could lead to constipation and black stools.
There may also be GI issues. Short term usage is recommended.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your primary care physician before you start consuming activate charcoal.
