However, if you’re an artisan, this is right up your alley. There are many different DIY carrot oil recipes online but this one is targeted toward hair growth, strengthening hair, and nourishing the scalp.

DIY Carrot Oil Recipe

To make carrot oil, you will need fresh carrot sticks, coconut oil, castor oil, burdock root oil or pumpkin seed oil, emu oil, argan oil, peppermint, rosemary, and lavender essential oil.

Step 1 – Prep Carrots

Clean the carrots and scrape off the outer layer. Set aside to dry then grate or finely shred the carrots. Pour in a bowl and set aside.

Step 2 – Prep Oils

Measure all the carrier oils into a double boiler over very low heat. Add in the grated carrots and stir.

Step 3 – Make Carrot Oil

Leave the carrots and oils to heat for 20 minutes. Stir every 5 – 10 minutes. Afterward, remove from heat and set aside to cool.

Step 4 – Strain Oil

Once the carrot oil is cool, strain and pour into a suitable bottle. Add in the essential oils. Close and shake well.

Store your carrot oil away from direct sunlight. This carrot oil should last for a few months and as long as a year but if it smells iffy before then, discard it and make a fresh batch.

How to Make Carrot Oil at Home

Carrot oil is one of the best oils for hair breakage and strengthening hair. This recipe covers how to make carrot oil specifically for hair growth.

Materials

Tools

  • Double boiler
  • Grater
  • Pan
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • 8 oz squeeze cap bottle
  • Spatula
  • Measuring spoons

Instructions

  1. Clean the carrots and scrape outer skin then set aside to dry.
  2. Once the skin is dry, finely grate the carrots. You can use a grater.
  3. Place the double boiler on the stove over low heat and measure in all the carrier oils. Apply very low heat. You are not cooking the carrots.
  4. Add in the grated carrots and stir for a few minutes.
  5. Leave for 20 minutes; stirring every 5 minutes.
  6. After 20 minutes, remove from heat and set aside until completely cooled down.
  7. Strain out the oil using a fine-mesh strainer like this one.
  8. Add in the essential oils. Stir and pour into the squeeze cap bottle or glass bottle. Shake and your DIY carrot oil is ready.

Notes

  • This carrot oil is specifically for hair growth so you can use it primarily as a scalp massage oil but feel free to seal with it or use it as a leave-in oil conditioner. 
  • You can also add 1 – 2 teaspoons to your styling cream or butter. Do not use on skin. This is not a recipe for the skin. I will upload another recipe later on for the skin.
  • Do not overuse carrot oil. Too much will cause build up and make your hair and scalp greasy.
