Best Carrot Oil for Hair Growth

Here’s what to look out for to choose the best carrot oil for hair growth and the best oils that go well with carrot oil.

Carrot oil is produced via steam distillation using dried carrot seeds or cold pressing the seeds.

Steam distillation and cold pressing ensure all the nutrients in the oil are retained. Carrots come in different colors – orange, purple, yellow, white.

However, the traditional carrot oil is light orange/amber in color. Carrot oil can also be produced by macerating carrots and infusing a suitable carrier oil.

The next article will share how to DIY carrot oil for hair growth using the best carrier oils.

Carrot Oil for Hair

Carrot oil strengthens hair due to the high beta-carotene content, which is a precursor for vitamin A.

Vitamin A is responsible for strong hair and promotes a healthy scalp environment for optimal hair growth.

Because of this high beta-carotene content, carrot oil also helps prevent split ends by guarding against dryness and protecting hair from the elements.

Additionally, when the right oils are blended with carrot oil, it leads to shinier hair and moisture retention.

Can Carrot Oil Help Grow Hair?

Carrot oil as a hair growth agent is one of the oils featured in the hair loss recovery chapter of Grow Your Hair Healthy and Long with Natural Oils.

When it comes to treating hair loss and thinning, carrot oil is one of the best oils for this purpose.

However, I recommend combining it with other hair growth oils for optimal results.

Can You Leave Carrot Oil in Your Hair?

You can leave carrot oil in your hair overnight and as long as you want. There is no need to wash it out and it won’t clog your scalp.

However, if you are applying carrot oil over carrot oil for a few days at a time along with other products, you will need to co-wash or shampoo at some point.

It won’t damage your hair but it will prevent other products from working effectively.

Carrot Oil for Hair Growth

Authentic carrot oil has been steam distilled and is a light orange/amber color. In the absence of steam distillation, it can also be cold-pressed.

It should have an earthy neutral smell. While carrot oil is not as expensive as argan oil, it is still relatively more expensive than common oils.

The only ingredient should be carrot oil. With this in mind, below are my top recommendations of the best carrot oil for hair growth:-

Carrot oil can also be combined with essential oils like lavender essential oil, neroli essential oil, and ylang-ylang essential oil.

Tip – carrot oil should be used in moderation as too much can lead to greasy hair. You need only a few drops to a teaspoon at a time depending on what you’re doing.
