I featured elemi and batana oils in previous articles, but combined, they can be a powerful duo for strengthening and revitalizing hair.
While elemi oil is ideal for its scalp-purifying and rejuvenating properties, batana oil is celebrated for nourishing and restoring shine to dry, damaged strands.
When combined, elemi and batana oils create a powerful hair care duo that promotes growth, strengthens follicles, enhances scalp health, and leaves hair looking revitalized from root to tip.
In this article, I’ll cover the combined power of elemi and batana oils and guide you through creating a simple yet effective DIY serum for healthier, more vibrant hair.

The Power of Elemi Oil for Hair
Elemi essential oil, distilled from the resin of the Canarium luzonicum tree, is prized in aromatherapy and skincare for its rejuvenating qualities.
For hair and scalp health, elemi oil brings unique advantages such as:-
- Its antimicrobial and clarifying properties help keep the scalp free from buildup, dandruff, and irritation.
- Elemi stimulates blood flow to the scalp, creating a healthy environment for follicle activity and new growth.
- Rich in compounds like limonene and elemol, elemi supports the repair of damaged scalp tissue, contributing to long-term follicle resilience.
- Its refreshing, slightly citrusy aroma makes any DIY blend feel like a spa treatment.
The Rich Nourishment of Batana Oil
Batana oil, derived from the American palm (Elaeis oleifera) in Central America, is often called “liquid gold” by the indigenous communities. Its properties for hair include:-
- Packed with essential fatty acids and antioxidants, batana deeply conditions the hair shaft and provides intense nourishment.
- Known for reviving dull, brittle strands, batana leaves hair looking glossy and full of life.
- Rich in tocotrienols, a form of Vitamin E, it helps reduce breakage and improve strand flexibility and elasticity.
- Traditionally, batana oil has been used to naturally darken and mask grey hairs.
Why Elemi and Batana Oils Work Better Together
Individually, each oil is impressive, and you can find recipes in the earlier articles, but their synergy makes them a powerhouse duo:-
- Elemi detoxifies the scalp while Batana replenishes moisture and strength to the hair shaft.
- Elemis and batana oils together create the perfect environment for strong, healthy, and fast-growing strands.
- Elemi is light and aromatic, balancing the heavier, richer texture of batana oil for a blend that absorbs beautifully without weighing hair down.
DIY Elemi and Batana Hair Serum
Creating your own serum allows you to harness the full potential of these oils.
Here’s a basic recipe you can adapt for your needs, or combine with other recommended oils:-
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons of batana oil
- 8 to 10 drops of elemi essential oil
- 2 tablespoons of jojoba or argan oil
- 4 oz dark glass dropper bottle
Instructions
- Measure the batana, jojoba, or argan oil in the dropper bottle. Close and shake well.
- Add in the elemi essential oil. Close and shake again until fully incorporated.
How to Use
- Scalp treatment: Massage a few drops directly into your scalp 2 to 3 times a week until absorbed.
- Pre-poo: Apply to hair and scalp until absorbed, then twist and pin up. Leave overnight. Leaving overnight provides intense nourishment as well.
- Leave-in serum: Rub 2 to 3 drops between your palms and smooth over damp hair, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends.
Extra Tips for Success with Elemi and Batana Oils
- Warm the serum slightly before applying to enhance absorption.
- Pair with a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo to protect the scalp’s natural balance.
- Consistency is key to experiencing noticeable results.
The combined benefits of hair growth, strength, scalp health, and shine provided by elemi and batana oils are undeniable.
By incorporating them into your hair care routine, you’re giving your hair a revitalizing treatment that works from root to tip.
