Please tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Markele Phillips but I go by Markele DeJa’nae. I reside in Dallas, Texas where I was born and raised. I’m a unique individual trying to help people around the world on how to learn to love themselves. Join me?
Tell us about your journey so far, transitioning or big chop, your challenges, etc.:
I’ve done several things to my head throughout my life but the only thing I’ve never tried is get a perm. I’ve always been natural thanks to my mom! My hair wasn’t always this long though and it’s been a process getting it to this stage.
What is your regular regimen like?
My regimen for my hair is to give it whatever it needs when it’s needed. So if my hair feels slightly brittle or dry, I must give it a deep condition. Also, I always make sure my ends are clipped to control my split ends and prevent them from travelling up the hair shaft.
What are your favorite oils and how do you use them?
I don’t have a favorite at this time, since oils make me all greasy and what not. However, I’m looking forward to trying Mielle Organics Almond Mint Oil and see how my hair does with it.
What are your other favorite hair care products?
What’s your favorite way to wear your hair?
I like to wear my hair in a curly bun. This is my all time favorite hairstyle. I like to wear it big and curly but sometimes it becomes too much especially in the Texas heat.
Do you have any preferred hair accessories/toys?
What’s the one hair care advice you would give to someone considering going natural?
I would say you must have patience especially if you’re going to do the big chop. Making your hair healthy and lovely should be your passion; it’s like a job.
